The gospel is the good news that God wants a personal relationship with you. He has made that possible through Jesus Christ. When you ask Jesus to forgive you and to be the Leader of your life, you will begin the adventure of this personal relationship with God.

People are created in the image of God. Therefore, we are endowed with many good traits and can accomplish much good. But each of us also experiences the inability to do right all the time. We have thoughts and emotions that are not good. We also do things or say things that are very mean and selfish. We don’t want others telling us what to do, including God. The Bible identifies this as our sin nature and that it separates us from God.

Nature reveals that God is powerful and that He is brilliant and has a great imagination. But God wants us to know His character, that He is holy, loving, compassionate, and merciful. He also wants all mankind of every generation in every nation to know about Jesus. The Bible is the means by which we learn these things. It is completely trustworthy and shows us how to live life well in every age.

Jesus was miraculously born of a young virgin girl for two reasons. One, He wanted to show us what God is like. Secondly, He wanted to pay the penalty that our sins deserved so that we could have a personal relationship with God. These two things were accomplished because Jesus was both God and human. He lived a sinless life. After His torturous death on a cross, He came back to life on the third day. Later, He returned to Heaven. At some point in the future, He will return.

God has revealed Himself in the Bible to be one God in three distinct Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. No one can comprehend how this is possible, but the Bible clearly teaches it to be so. Therefore, when Jesus was on earth, He submitted Himself to the Father’s will. Now that Jesus has returned to Heaven, the Holy Spirit indwells all those who ask Jesus to forgive them and be the Leader of their life.

This process of coming into a personal relationship with God is referred to as “salvation.” It is not something you earn by your good deeds. Since Jesus has died for your sins and came back to life, He offers this salvation as a free gift, not to be earned but to be received by faith.
